Happy #MusicMonday! So glad you decided to get your week started right with our Monday music selections. Enjoy!
MYM – Yeah Yeah
British Nigerian singer and songwriter MYM has been on my radar for a while. She recently dropped her EP ‘Light Life’ which received an incredible response. My favourite track from that body of work was ‘Yeah Yeah’ which has a very light hearted, bouncy, afropop melody to it. ‘Yeah Yeah’ channels elements from a number of sounds but generally emulates a very happy, funky and wholesome tone.
Incisive – Push (ft. Shakka)
‘Push’ has a very progressive and contemporary element to it and I am so here for this summer feel good sound that West London native, Incisive is channelling in his latest release featuring British singer/songwriter, Shakka. ‘Push’ has a very cool electric bass-like vibe throughout the duration of the track, definitely due to be a big one this season.
Ray BLK – My Hood (ft. Stormzy)
Catford resident and 22-year-old south Londoner Ray BLK, dropped the video to ‘My Hood’ 14th July 2016 which features independent MC, Stormzy. In this track she speaks on the realities and hardships of hailing from a place like Catford, but also the beauties in her surroundings, cultures and the people. I gravitated towards this song because you can tell the lyrics are written from a genuine perspective and it’s almost like a tribute to the South side of London.
Jamilah Barry – HIM&HER
HIM&HER is the latest drop by Jamilah Barry, produced by Midnight Phunk. Phunk’s slow and sultry purple tones are complimented by Jamilah’s sensuous vocals. This track is an exploration of all things alluring about music itself. Only three minutes and thirty-six seconds long, this tune is guaranteed to have you addicted to Ms Barry’s sound.
